It’s time to meet Carla! A Licensed Independent Mental Health Counselor, Carla has served in our Omaha Veteran’s facility since it opened in 2012. As a mental health practitioner, Carla helps guests resolve the issues that are causing homelessness, and encourages them in their journey to get back on their feet. “Many of our guests are here because of trauma in their lives,” she says, “and that has left them with fewer tools in their tool belts. I try to help them gain some of those tools that they need to move forward in their journey.”
Prior to working for New Visions, Carla served as a Children’s Minister and also worked in Prison Ministry. “I guess I’ve always enjoyed helping people and wanted to gird them up to bring them to the next step in life,” she says. One of the things that Carla loves most about New Visions is the team approach that is taken to help people. “We all bring different skills to the table,” she says, “and it adds a richness to the layers of support that people receive at New Visions.”
Confident, curious, and a good-listener, Carla loves to learn about people’s passions and help them to be the best person they can be. Carla is proud of the things she has accomplished on staff at New Visions, as well as how her faith has sustained her through difficult times. Carla loves spending time with her 3 kids and 7 (soon to be 8) grandchildren, and in her free time, she enjoys hiking, quilting, reading, gardening, and participating in activities at church. We are so grateful to have Carla on our team!
