Introducing Legacy Grove: A Safe Home for Every Hero

A New Home for Veterans in Need of Stability

New Visions Homeless Services is proud to announce the launch of the capital campaign for Legacy Grove Senior Veteran Apartments, a planned permanent supportive housing community designed to provide stability, dignity, and care for Veterans who have experienced homelessness or housing instability.

For years, New Visions has walked alongside individuals facing hunger, homelessness, trauma, poverty, and barriers to long-term stability. Through emergency shelter, meals, housing support, outreach, case management, and Veteran-specific services, we have seen firsthand that homelessness is rarely the result of one challenge alone.

Why Legacy Grove Is Needed

For many Veterans, the path to homelessness can include a combination of trauma, disability, health challenges, aging, isolation, limited income, and difficulty accessing the support systems needed to remain safely housed.

Temporary shelter can provide immediate relief, but many Veterans need more than a short-term solution. They need a safe place to live, access to supportive services, and a community where they can rebuild stability over time.

Legacy Grove is part of a broader effort to move the community closer to functional zero for Veteran homelessness—a point where Veteran homelessness is rare, brief, and quickly resolved when it occurs. That is the vision behind Legacy Grove.

More Than an Apartment Building

Legacy Grove will be more than an apartment building. It will be a permanent supportive housing community created specifically for Veterans; a place where residents can live with dignity, remain connected to support, and experience the safety and stability of home.

In addition to housing, Legacy Grove will include shared spaces and supportive amenities that encourage connection, wellness, independence, and community. Planned spaces include a community kitchen, dining room, fitness center, meeting rooms, computer room, medical offices, pantry, outdoor walking trail, outdoor fitness area, and other spaces that support daily life and long-term wellbeing.

These spaces matter because housing alone does not always resolve the challenges that lead to homelessness. Stable housing is the foundation, but supportive services, trusted relationships, access to care, and a sense of belonging are what help people remain housed and move forward.

At Legacy Grove, Veterans will not simply have a place to stay. They will have a place to call home.

A $22 Million Community Investment

Legacy Grove is a $22 million project, with more than half of the dollars already raised. The community will be built on land purchased by New Visions Homeless Services near 92nd and Blondo in Omaha.

The property where Legacy Grove will be built will also include a separate housing development led by Holy Name Housing, creating additional housing opportunities for individuals and families with low incomes. Together, the developments reflect a broader community commitment to expanding access to safe, stable housing for people facing housing insecurity.

A Natural Next Step for New Visions

For New Visions, this campaign is a natural next step in our mission to provide help, hope, and opportunity to those experiencing hunger and homelessness. Legacy Grove builds on our existing work with Veterans and strengthens the continuum of care available to those who have served our country.

But a project of this size cannot happen through New Visions alone.

A Community Effort

Legacy Grove is a community effort. It will require the support of donors, partners, businesses, foundations, churches, civic leaders, Veteran organizations, volunteers, and neighbors who believe that Veterans deserve stability after service.

Every gift to the Legacy Grove campaign helps create something lasting. It helps build safe housing. It helps create spaces for meals, conversation, health, wellness, and support. It helps ensure that Veterans who have faced homelessness or housing instability are met with dignity, not indifference.

Legacy Grove is more than housing. It is safety, dignity, connection, and a safe home for every hero.
