Jesse came to the New Visions shelter in June of 2025. He had overdosed on fentanyl and was facing criminal charges. Feeling lost and not knowing what to do next, he talked to Destyni, our Chemical Dependency Counselor. Destyni was able to help Jesse apply for Medicaid and SNAP and get him into the “Miracles” Treatment program at Sienna Francis House in Omaha. But Jesse was afraid of going to treatment and his addiction had a tight hold on him. He left the New Visions shelter on the morning that he was to be admitted into treatment. But our casework team would not let Jesse go so easily, so they tracked him down and admitted him immediately into Douglas County Detox. After several days in detox, Jesse went straight into the Miracles treatment program, where Destyni continued to check in on him. During his treatment, Jesse took care of his criminal charges and completed his sentence at the Pott County Jail. Jesse also worked hard on himself and he recently graduated from the Miracles treatment program with 192 days of sobriety!
Jesse is now employed and in a sober living house surrounded by others who are encouraging him in his journey of sobriety. After being released from treatment, Jesse sent a message to his caseworker, Destyni, saying: “Sobriety feels so good… I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity you gave me. I tell everyone how treatment changed my life and that it can change theirs too if they give it a chance.” We’re proud of Jesse and others like him who reach out and accept the help that’s available to them. At New Visions, our team is committed to keeping our hands extended and ready to help those who are willing to reach out and grasp it. *Jesse’s name was changed to protect his privacy.
