Staff Spotlight- John

John’s story is uniquely a staff story as well as a personal story about who we are at New Visions. John is a part of our staff team at our Omaha Veteran’s campus, but his story goes back over 10 years ago, and starts at our Council Bluffs campus.

“I was working a construction job and walking by the New Visions campus in Council Bluffs,” he

remembers. “I was a drug addict and wanted to end my life.” He remembers meeting our founder, Harry Wallar, at the park down the street from our Council Bluffs campus. “Harry and New Visions saved my life,” he says. It was a transformative journey that included not only help with addiction but also a fight with Leukemia.

Pastor Harry and New Visions changed the trajectory of John’s life, and he is now serving as our Omaha campus facilities manager, which includes taking care of the campus and managing incoming donations. “I like having the chance to pay it forward,” he says, and he loves having the opportunity to meet people where they are as he interacts with residents at our Omaha campus. “You never know who or what it might take to reach someone,” he says, “and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

John describes himself as reliable, friendly, and lucky, and he’s most proud of his 3 daughters and one grandchild. In his free time, John enjoys working on old cars and motorcycles. “I like to restore things that are broken,” he says, and his role at New Visions gives him the opportunity to do that in many different ways. We are incredibly blessed to have John on our team, and honored to be a part of his story.
