Staff Spotlight- Rachel

This is Rachel! One of our Shelter Advocates in Council Bluffs, Rachel helps with case management in the shelter as well as working with our Street Outreach program. She is also our only Spanish-speaking staff member, and helps provide translation services in all of our program areas. Rachel joined our staff team in October of 2020, but has been connected with New Visions in various ways for several years. “It’s absolutely my dream job,” says Rachel. “No matter what area I’m helping in, I do everything I can to positively impact other people’s lives.”

One of the things that has impacted Rachel the most during her time at New Visions was seeing the amount of time and effort that goes into the annual Community Christmas Event. “It’s incredible,” she says. “I never knew until I was on staff and could get a glimpse behind the scenes, just how much work it takes to make it happen!”

Some of Rachel’s defining characteristics include sensitivity, empathy, and drive – all of which are extremely important in her work as an advocate. “I go out of my way to be in the dining hall and engage with the guys there,” she says, “I try to be sensitive to their needs and meet them where they are.”

Rachel’s drive to overcome her own trauma is one of the things she is most proud of in her life, as well as being proud of her family and the work she gets to do on staff at New Visions. Rachel stays busy with her kids as they compete in different sports and activities throughout the year, but one thing they always make time for as a family is fishing. Some of Rachel’s favorites include Chinese food, dogs, and the color purple, and we are incredibly blessed that Rachel is a part of our team at New Visions!
