Staff Spotlight- Willie

This is Willie! One of our counselors in our Omaha Veteran’s facility, Willie coordinates care and

treatment for Veterans dealing with substance abuse. A Veteran himself, Willie served in the US Army for 10 ½ years active, and another 12 years in the Reserves. Coming out of the military, Willie always wanted to give back and soon became a licensed substance abuse counselor. When he joined the staff at New Visions about 2 ½ years ago, he says he “loved the vibe” of our campus and team that is dedicated to serving Veterans. “I always envision lighting candles,” he says, “I think that’s what “New Visions” means to people, lighting a new candle on their journey.”

Patient, outgoing, and energetic are three characteristics that define Willie and his work at New Visions. “Transformation takes time,” he says, “but everyone has a story, and it’s powerful to watch someone go from being trapped by their substance abuse to a kind of freedom that manifests itself in their family and career.”

Willie is most proud of being supportive and present in the lives of his family, which includes 3 children and 10 grandchildren. His favorite color is blue, and he loves all kinds of foods. Willie loves cooking big holiday meals for his family and going to church to sing in the choir. Thank you, Willie, for being a part of our team at New Visions!
