Volunteer Spotlight-Black Hills Energy

Our friends at Black Hills Energy are in the Volunteer Spotlight today as we continue celebrating National Volunteer Month! Corporate volunteers are such a gift to nonprofits because oftentimes corporations will allow their employees to volunteer their time during the work-week, which is when we really need help!

Over the past year, Black Hills Energy volunteers have engaged in many different opportunities at New Visions including serving at our Meal-Site, Veteran’s Campus, Holiday Event, Drive-Through Food Pantry, and even coordinating several employee drives to collect food and other supplies for us. “When your employer encourages engaging in the community like this,” says one employee, “it makes it easier to make the commitment to help.”

Like many volunteers, the team from Black Hills Energy feels like they receive just as much as they give when they volunteer. “I have such great joy serving the community and being a part of something much greater than myself,” says one employee. The Black Hills Energy staff has seen first-hand how hunger and homelessness affects many people right here in our own community. “It really is about neighbors helping neighbors,” says one volunteer, “you don’t have to look too far to find opportunities to serve right where you live.”

Black Hills Energy volunteers hope that their service can encourage others to volunteer as well. “Volunteering for New Visions offers great benefits to the recipients, our community, and even the volunteers themselves by putting compassion and love for others into action,” says a Black Hills staff volunteer, and we couldn’t agree more. With the help of volunteer teams like these, we’ll keep putting compassion and love into action as long as there’s a need. Thank you, Black Hills Energy, for giving so much of your time, energy, and resources towards assisting those experiencing hunger and homelessness right here in our city.
