Board of Directors Spotlight: JASON BLUM

Our Board Spotlights continue this week with Jason! A few short years ago, Jason was volunteering through his employer, PowerTech, when he helped with a food distribution at New Visions Homeless Services. Jason was shocked to see the level of poverty and homelessness right here in the area that he calls home. “I had noticed people on the street before, but I had no idea how many people were struggling,” says Jason, “and I always wanted to help, but I never really knew how.” So when Jason’s boss asked him about the possibility of joining the Board at New Visions, Jason immediately agreed.

Two years later, Jason now has a better understanding of the situation of poverty and homelessness in our community, and he’s in a good position to help where needed.

Upon joining the New Visions Board, Jason gathered some co-workers to serve a meal at our Mohm’s Place kitchen, and he’s also made a strong commitment to volunteering at our Christmas Celebration. Additionally, Jason has brought his unique skills as an electrician to assist with lighting and power for our Christmas event in years past.

Along with serving on our Board and his job at PowerTech, Jason enjoys building things with lumber, raising chickens, and spending time with his family. And now, when he sees people struggling out in the community, he has a better understanding of where they’re coming from and how he can help. “I appreciate the mission of New Visions,” says Jason, “providing help, hope, and opportunity… and those aren’t just words. The staff truly puts those things into action by giving guidance and helping people rebuild their futures.” We’re so grateful for Board members like Jason who embrace our mission and serve our community through advocacy, support, and action.
