Next up in our Board spotlights is LACEY! One of our newer board members, Lacey has been helping to guide our work through her spot as Treasurer of our Board of Directors for nearly a year. Before that, Lacey served for several years on our Christmas Committee as well as volunteering for our Christmas event and in the kitchen. Volunteering was instilled in Lacey at a young age, as her great grandparents always encouraged her to take care of others. Her immediate family also modeled service by occasionally providing a place to stay for those who needed help. “I’ve always felt a passion to serve veterans, kids, individuals with mental health concerns, and low-income families,” says Lacey. “When I met Brandy (New Visions CEO) through Leadership Council Bluffs, the mission of New Visions truly captured my heart and aligned with my passions.”
In addition to being a part of Leadership Council Bluffs, Lacey has served the community in many other ways including involvement with Teammates Mentoring, the Pottawattamie County Housing Trust Fund, and as a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. But Lacey’s “day job” is also a passion for her, having 20 years of experience in banking and working for the past 10 years at TS Bank. Starting out as a Teller, Lacey worked her way up to her current role as Banking Administration Officer, where she matches policy to procedure, manages systems and vendors, and is always looking to create efficiency. She prides herself on building strong relationships with those around her and believes that love, compassion, and humanity go a long way in both work and life. Her expertise and people-first approach are a tremendous asset to the strategic direction of the New Visions Board.
Along with being a board member and employee, Lacey is also a wife and mother of 2. Her 7-year-old son is already taking on the family legacy of generosity by initiating donations to our shelter and meal site. When asked if he was afraid to bring donations to the shelter, Lacey’s son replied, “They’re just people God made, who need help.” Sometimes, seeing the world through the eyes of a child enables us to better see the human behind homelessness. We’re so grateful for Lacey’s leadership and advocacy at New Visions, in the community, and even in her home as she leads the next generation to have compassion on our neighbors experiencing hunger and homelessness.
