This week’s Board Spotlight shines on Leslie Wrinkle! Leslie is the Human Resources Director for another local nonprofit called Firefly, and has worked in human resources for 20 years now. Leslie grew up in Council Bluffs and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Iowa with her Bachelor’s degree and from Bellevue University with her Master’s degree. Leslie has one son who lives in Ohio. In addition to her 4 years of service on our board, Leslie also plays oboe for the Council Bluffs Symphony, volunteers for the Council Bluffs Library, and is active in the Beagle and Basset Rescue Group. Leslie has spent most of her life in Council Bluffs committed to the betterment of our community at many levels.

Leslie first connected with New Visions through her position as a Council Bluffs Ambassador, where she met Brandy Wallar. “Brandy’s passion is simply contagious,” says Leslie. “The homeless situation touched me,” she says, “and I remembered an unhoused gentleman who would walk around Council Bluffs wearing Army fatigues when I was growing up… he stuck with me over all these years and I wanted to help people like him.”

Reflecting on the mission of New Visions, Leslie can see how we’re fulfilling our mission through the lives of our clients. “I immediately think about Nell in the kitchen,” says Leslie, “she is such a picture of someone who has rebuilt her life, and I have seen so many other stories like hers.”

One of the things that Leslie enjoys doing in her down-time is caring for her dogs. She is a self-proclaimed “foster failure” having adopted 3 dogs through fostering. Leslie also enjoys traveling and is planning a 120 mile pilgrimage in Portugal and Spain this next year. Leslie is also a die-hard Hawkeye fan and enjoys following Iowa’s teams. We’re so grateful for Leslie’s service to our Board and to the entire community of Council Bluffs. Thank you, Leslie, for all that you do to make our community a better place for ALL!
