Our next Board of Directors Spotlight shines on Nathan Horrell! Nathan joined our Board just one year ago with the purpose of guiding our team through our upcoming veteran’s building project called Legacy Grove. This project brings much-needed housing for aging and homeless veterans to the Omaha metro, combined with wrap-around services designed uniquely for those who have served our country.
Nathan has lived in the Omaha area his whole life. He has a wife and 5 children, ranging in age from 10 up to 23. Nathan’s professional life finds him serving as a Resource Manager for the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool. Nathan’s development and construction experience in the energy field bring a needed eye for detail to our Legacy Grove project team. When asked what led him to join our Board, Nathan says, “I realize that part of my success is due to the hard work of people who came before me. I believe that if we have the capacity and resources to build a strong foundation for other people, we should take those opportunities.”
Nathan appreciates the ability he has on the Board to see the mission of New Visions fulfilled through the everyday work of our staff. Realizing that he personally doesn’t have the skill set to directly support individuals facing homelessness, Nathan finds fulfillment in supporting our casework staff and those who do the direct work of executing the mission. “I recognize that those experiencing homelessness need help, and I’m glad to be able to support those who know best how to help them.”
In his free time, Nathan enjoys leather-working, yard work, biking, and running, in addition to spending a lot of time with family. Reflecting on his time so far on our Board, Nathan says, “I joined the board out of a strong sense of responsibility for others and my community, but now it has turned into one of the most important things I do with my time. I’m glad that I get to be a part of this conversation around homelessness, I believe it’s more important now than ever.” We’re so grateful for Nathan’s guidance and influence both on our Board and in the broader community.
